The Role of Age and Gender in Perceived Vulnerability to Infectious Diseases
2020
Background: The study of the immune system has been approached using two separate paths, the biological immune system and the behavioral immune system. Recently, Gangestad and Grebe proposed a unique integrated compensatory immune system, where both systems work together and one of them could compensate for the other when necessary. However, few studies have confirmed the existence of this integrated compensatory immune system. Our study represents an attempt to explore the existence of this unique immune system, investigating if the behavioral immune system variables increase when the biological immune system weakens with age. Material and Methods. The cross-sectional design study was made…
"Stop Making sense" a randomised text design study
2018
The current epistemological scaffolding of psychotherapy and mental health care ruthlessly privileges what is already understood and given shape, to the extent that what is currently meaningless and chaotic is strained out. The present work is an experimental attempt at contesting this way of going about the business of mental (health) care. To achieve this, we attempt to systematically destroy meaning in a text that we ourselves have produced. Through the innovation “randomised text designâ€, we seek to provide space for non-meaning and ignorance within the mental health discourse. What the process of randomised text design allows us to do, is bend away from ideas that hold psychotherap…
Assessing Effects of eGovernment Initiatives Based on a Public Value Framework
2012
Published version of a chapter in the book: Electronic Government. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-33489-4_21 Assessing effects of eGovernment initiatives is considered an important but challenging endeavor. Assessments are, among other things, important to justify e-government investments. They are challenging because they are complex, often based on locally defined indicators, many times over-emphasizing financial effects, imprecise, faced with a number of contingencies and very seldom validated. Consequently, effect assessments can be seen as imprecise and difficult to compare across different initiatives. This paper addresses some of the challen…
Toroidal magnetized iron neutrino detector for a neutrino factory
2013
A neutrino factory has unparalleled physics reach for the discovery and measurement of CP violation in the neutrino sector. A far detector for a neutrino factory must have good charge identification with excellent background rejection and a large mass. An elegant solution is to construct a magnetized iron neutrino detector (MIND) along the lines of MINOS, where iron plates provide a toroidal magnetic field and scintillator planes provide 3D space points. In this paper, the current status of a simulation of a toroidal MIND for a neutrino factory is discussed in light of the recent measurements of large theta(13). The response and performance using the 10 GeV neutrino factory configuration ar…
Site selection for the new generation of giant neutrino detectors
2012
The main findings of the LAGUNA Design Study are briefly discussed. Construction of giant underground detectors is technically feasible at several sites. Physics factors will dominate in the site selection.
